Email not sending - A solution

I am new to osCommerce and have just installed it onto a Windows server and like many others I found the email would not send. I have only tried so far from the admin module and I was getting a message saying the email was sent but it never arrived. After lots of research I found the answer to my particular problem so this might help others:

 

I downloaded and followed the install instructions for this contribute:

HOWEVER the email still would not work until I changed the email configuration 'From' settings.

 

This did not work: My Company <my.email.address>

 

This did work: my.email.address

 

From what I have read, others have different problems and fixes depending on the server setup... but for what it is worth, this fixed my problem.
