Sorry to be a useless git but I'm new to oscommerce (2hrs old). Can anyone spare the time to tell me how I load my images of my products to my catalogue. I find the file but an error message of : Catalog images directory is not writeable: /var/virtual/web/w1027/html/shop/images/

Cheers

You need to set the permissions on the images directory. It defaults to 755 but some hosts require it be 777 and that is probably the case here. You can change the permissions from your hosts control panel or, usually, with an ftp program. There are many free ftp programs available and you will need one anyway so you should go ahead and try that way. Filezilla and SmartFTP are a couple of the more popular ftp programs.

This is a different problem, by default I don't think osc creates the backup folder, so within your admin directory, you'll want to create a folder called backups, with appropriate permissions... From a command line, if you have ssh access, you can type:

mkdir backups

From your admin directory... If you use an ftp client, you'll have to use whatever method the client has for creating new directories, most of them I think you can just right-click the remote side and say create directory...

Hay Jack...cheers. I'm totally lost now. I've created my website using FrontPage and purchased this shopfront from my host as thought it would be simple. How do get into my permissions images directory and where do I find the 755? Is it through the file manager?

In your file manage, you can generally click on the folder itself, which should then give you some options like copying it, deleting it, renaming it, and changing the permissions on it... If you select to change permissions, you'll either be able to type in the number itself, or be presented with kind of a 3x3 list of permissions... If you get the 3x3 list, it should also have the #'s that those columns add up to... I can't remember which ones are which, but it's a 1, 2, and 4 value between read/write/execute, so the total for all 3 is 7... You just want to check them appropriately for a 755 permission...

Nope, wrong area :) We're referring to your webhosting control panel, usually it's plesk or cpanel or directadmin, or something like that...
