daviddecristoforo Posted February 16, 2007 Posted February 16, 2007 The default install of the store is configuted as some kind of computer store. I don't need any of that stuff and while it seems like it's going to be straight forward enough to re-configure the catagories and products, is there any simple way to strip out all of the images and other related stuff. Or do you just have to mine through the folders and find the stuff. Also, is there no basic instructions or tutorial on how to configure the store? Like what size thumbnails and large images should be, etc? I have found a lot of information on various specific changes but it seems like it's spread all over the place. Am I missing something? Is there a "plain english" manual out there somewhere. Thanx DD

Thanx DD Just delete the products, sub categories and categories and replace with your own, you can delete the images in the images folder and upload the images you want. There are a few current posts about image resizing, just browse through the latest posts and you will find one that is relevant to your query and I'm afraid there is no "plain english" manual out there somewhere that I or a zillion other people are aware of, I wish there was but that would make life too easy for us all! lol Cheers Ros

It's good to have a copy of this locally (on your hard drive) so you can pull from it or refer to it as necessary. At the top of the forums, there is a Blue "Solutions" button, which will take you to Documentation and Downloads. Another great resource is the visual file structure and connection among files: http://oscdox.com/crossx/nav.html?_functions/index.html I can't stress enough that building your PHP vocabulary by reading, reading, and reading some more will benefit you when you need to ask questions on the forum or, more importantly, need to search for something specific. The answers are here, but you may have to broaden or narrow the terms of your search. Above all, be patient with this learning curve. You know about "Rome wasn't built in a day" :) With respect to removing the stock products/categories and adding your own, the manual will walk you through. You will note that the manual's screenshots are different than what you will see in your own Admin. They are from an upcoming version of osC that's still beta. Always back up your data base within Admin>>Tools>>Backup, and then FTP your store down locally so you can quickly reverse a screwup <-- and it's gonna happen :) We've all done it! I hope this helps, jon It's all just ones and zeros....
daviddecristoforo Posted February 16, 2007 Author Posted February 16, 2007 "Rome wasn't built in a day" :) For sure. And I don't have any problems with the idea of learning. It's just not my "bag" if you know what I mean. I'm a "user" not a "coder". I understand how the basic structures work, know a bit of HTML, XML, JS, etc. but this is just a bit more complex and I would like to achieve a certain look that is consistent with an already existing web site. I went through the same thing with "WordPress" and managed to pick up enough to make that work, mostly by asking questions on the absolutely superb WP support forums. Thanx... "I'll be back....." DD
