how much control have you got to change graphics and layout of the website?

at what level? from the default osc admin you have just few options. But you could add your own code, or deploy some of the grahics related modules from the contributions and you have full control.

If you ad your own code , can you do it seperate from cart code, or do you alwyas try to add it in with tha cart code (eg add new box)?
