gray_bale
Oscommerce just died ??? any ideas plz urgently. I get error message 'Unable to connect to database server!' My main website is running OK, as is a different MySql database, not running with Apache. It might be due to the computer just having allocated itself a different IP address. Any ideas where I need modify anything. http://www.gb-online.co.uk/catalog/index.php

Found it The localhost ip address is stored in admin/includes/configure.php and aslo in /includes/configure.php localhost was 192.168.0.102, but for some reason only to be explained by Bill G, the computer changed its address to 192.168.0.101 Oscommerce obviously is not smart enough to sense the changed ip address. So keep 'localhost' in the parameter in the configure.php file instead of your IP address and forget about it.

Yeah, oscommerce isn't smart enough to sense a changed ip address, that's why you have to specify the server address.. Given the IP's you posted though, and the fact that it spontaneously changed IP's, it looks like you may be running on a dhcp setup, which means that unless you use david's idea and put 'localhost' or the actual machine name into that file, you'll most likely run into this problem again in the future if that box is issued a new IP address by dhcp...
