daviddecristoforo
I just got osCommerce installed and "working" in that I can hit the store without error and access the admin. panel too, so, so far so good. What I really need at this point are some pointers on how to customize the store's appearance. I'm not a "coder" just a "user" who manages to get things working eventually with a lot of help. I was hoping this would be like wordpress where I could simply upload a template and I have even managed to tweak my WP templates a bit. But that's just one index.php file and one .CSS file. I can see that this in not going to be that easy! I have found some templates on the web but there seem to be some issues with these possibly causing problems. Any general advice on where to start would be most welcome. Thanx DD

daviddecristoforo
Reading throughthis thread should get you started. Good luck. :) Jack Well now...I just started looking at my files and I can't find any files with those names. Also that thread is two years old. I have installed osc2.2ms2. Do those files exist in an older version? I looked here: / public_html / store / includes / languages / english. Looking here: / public_html / store / includes / there is a "column_left.php" file which appears to be completely blank and a "column_right.php" file which contains some code that does not seem to relate to what is in my default right col. Jack_mcs
Understand that I have no idea what "those names" refer to and I can't see your site, so I'm at a loss to help you. The basic oscommerce files have not changed since July, 2003 and so that thread is valid. The contents of the files may have changed but the basic files will be there. You will need to ask specific questions with references to something someone else can see if anyone is to help you. Jack "Those names" refer to the files listed in the linked thread: http://www.oscommerce.com/forums/index.php?act...12&t=139426 A specific question? OK: 1) Is it possible that the file names in the above referenced post are not correct? That the file indicated as "includes/left_column.php" should actually be "includes/column_left.php", etc? This would at least explain why my file names are different. 2) Why would my "column_right.php" file be empty? The right col. itself is certainly not empty! Jack_mcs
1 - It should be column_left.php. 2 - The column_right.php file may be empty if you are not using anything in that column. If you are using a template, the template maker may have eliminated the use of that file completely. I think there might have been a "glitch" in my file viewer (in my hosting site's online control panel) because now I can see that the column_right.php file does indeed have some content. Weird! So I will continue "hacking" away at this..... Thanx Again DD
