DailyLunatic Posted October 10, 2002 Posted October 10, 2002 I am in need of some education regarding SSL. I have gone through many of the posts here on the topic and am now MORE confused than when I started. I see talk about Shared SSL, and SSL folders, directories, servers, & certificates. All new to me. My ISP has Shared SSL available to me at an additional cost (weither this is dir, cert, or other I am not knowing), but to have SSL they say I will need a dedicated IP. True? Throwing out everything I 'think' I know ('cause I'm not sure its right and don't want to confuse the issue even more) I really only have two questions at this time. 1] What will I need, & need to do, to accept secure CC on my site assuming I do not care what the URL reads? 2] What will I need, & need to do, to accept secure CC on my site assuming I want https://www.mydomain.com to be in the the URL? After I know the answer to these questions I believe I can make better sense of what I am reading. Sorry to be so dense, but this is all still new to this Static HTLM guy and nothing is making sense to me. Thanks in advance, Sterling 92.5% Pure Sterling (a.k.a. True? This is true. If you want to have your own SSL cert. If you are willing to share the SSL, you don't need your own dedicated IP. You just use a subdirectory of your ISP's cert. Instead of https://secure.yourdomain.com, you would use https://shared.yourhost.com/~yourdomain/your files. 1] What will I need, & need to do, to accept secure CC on my site assuming I do not care what the URL reads? Use the shared cert and set up osCommerce to use that URL as it's secure URL 2] What will I need, & need to do, to accept secure CC on my site assuming I want https://www.mydomain.com to be in the the URL? Get a dedicated IP, buy a cert and have your host install it for you. Then you can put that URL into osCommerce as the secure server. Email me at patrick at veverka.net if you have any other questions or need other help. I just finished going through this myself. Patrick Patrick
