brdah1 Posted February 13, 2007 Posted February 13, 2007 I am hoping to get some help with the install of OScommerce. I have used several different Windows installations to try to complete the install. My latest box is a Windows XP Pro with IIS 5.1, PHP 5, MySQL 5. I get all the way through the install, to the final page where the "Catalog" & "Admin Tools" buttons are available. When I click either button, I get the same error: "Unable to connect to database server!" If someone could please give some advice, I would really appreciate it. Thanks You Brian

Did you work out at fix to this? I'm trying to set up oscommerce on my desktop using the AppServer 2.4 package (Apache 2.0.59, PHP 4.4.4, MySQL 5.0.24a and phpMyAdmin 2.9.0.2). I get all the way through the install to the final page with the 'Catalog' and 'Admin' buttons. When I click the buttons I get 'Unable to connect to database server'. I have been stuck on it for hours! Any help would be greatly appreciated :)
Guest Posted April 19, 2007 Posted April 19, 2007 After many hours of searching my error logs etc I noticed that when I clicked the buttons it was trying to direct me to http://www.localhost rather than http://localhost. I tried typing it directly into my browser correctly and it just tried to redirect again. Lots of google searches later I discovered this is a problems with php4. I installed php5 and the problem vanished. Always the simple things! Hope this helps you!
webchicka Posted April 23, 2007 Posted April 23, 2007 I have the same issue. Has anyone solved it? Sadly, I don't think that's going to work for me. The problem started with me using PHP5, then I tried using PHP4 instead because I read that OSC and PHP5 don't work well together, but I'm having the same problem. I know someone has managed to get it working on windows. I know windows is not the best option, and if it were me personally, I would go with Linux, but it's a company server and I don't really have much to say in the matter. The boss is talking about building a linux machine for OSC and everything else on Windows, but who knows when that will be. thanks anyway.
