magicandmischief182
Error Messages If there are any error or warning messages shown above, please correct them first before proceeding. Error messages are displayed at the very top of the page with a complete background color. Several checks are performed to ensure a healthy setup of your online store - these checks can be disabled by editing the appropriate parameters at the bottom of the includes/application_top.php file. Editing Page Texts The text shown here can be modified in the following file, on each language basis: [path to catalog]/includes/languages/english/index.php That file can be edited manually, or via the Administration Tool with the Languages->English->Define or Tools->File Manager modules. The text is set in the following manner: define('TEXT_MAIN', 'This is a default setup of the osCommerce project...'); The text highlighted in green may be modified - it is important to keep the define() of the TEXT_MAIN keyword. To remove the text for TEXT_MAIN completely, the following example is used where only two single quote characters exist: define('TEXT_MAIN', ''); More information concerning the PHP define() function can be read here. Securing The Administration Tool It is important to secure the Administration Tool as there is currently no security implementation available. Online Documentation Online documentation can be read at the osCommerce Knowledge Base site. Community support is available at the osCommerce Community Support Forums site. That is message that is displayed on the front page of my website. It just showed up after I downloaded the new version of OsCommerce. The download also messed up the background color and image that I had. I "backed up" my website before I downloaded the new version of OsCommerce, so if I hit restore will it all go back to the way it was? Thanks, Jeff
jonquil
Your hint is in the red :) "The text shown here can be modified in the following file, on each language basis: [path to catalog]/includes/languages/english/index.php" You can upload your backed up stylesheet.css and the file above over the newly installed one, restore your backed up data base via Admin, and you should be well on your way to getting back to business. jon It's all just ones and zeros.... Did you copy the whole catalog directory (or the equivalent of) to somewhere else? Did you just make a backup of your database from the osc admin? The instructions to change the text are in the message on the front page. Go back and read it please. I have went into the style sheet but it doesnt say the same thing. psynaptic
I think you are confused. This is looks like a language file from the admin side. The stylesheet for your customer facing side is catalog/stylesheet.css - you will be able to change your background colour in there. You need to find the language file for the customer facing (catalog) side for the index.php file... Connect to your host with an FTP or SCP client if you are working on a remote host, browse to: catalog/includes/languages/english/index.php Then just change this to what you want it to read.. define('TEXT_MAIN', 'This is a default setup of the osCommerce project...'); such as define('TEXT_MAIN', 'Welcome to my website.. blah blah'); My Profile | Contribs I like most: 'On The Fly' Auto Thumbnailer, Active Countries, Header Tags Controller, Ultimate SEO URLs, UK Based osC, UK Postcode Validation, Open Featured Sets, UK Postcode Based Carrier Shipping

psynaptic
Yep, you can replace: define('TEXT_MAIN', 'This is a default setup of the osCommerce project, products shown are for demonstrational purposes, <b>any products purchased will not be delivered nor will the customer be billed</b>. There is also a manual included with the release which is also a good read for those who are just starting out with osc. Of course you can always ask questions here too as long as you show that you are putting some effort into learning some stuff yourself. psynaptic
Ok, I replaced the codes, now how do I get it onto the OSC? That's quite a question you have there. I have no idea what you mean. You haven't explained yourself well enough. Please give more details and someone might be able to help you. jonquil
As psynaptic rightly pointed out, you have some reading to do :) http://www.oscommerce.info/docs/english/ Trust the process: Reading the manual, included with the osC download, will build your vocabulary and help you ask more difficult questions than you are asking now. The following link will help you understand the structure of osC and how files are connected: http://oscdox.com/crossx/nav.html?_functions/index.html Don't copy and use code from this site as the line numbers will copy, as well. Your osC Admin is typically accessed here with username & password: mydomain.com/catalog/admin jon It's all just ones and zeros....
