Product attribute dependant upon previous selection

Is there a way I can make the options available for a product attribute variable according to the previous product attribute option chosen ?

For example:

If the product has a first attribute and the options are A, B & C

If you select option A, I then want the second attribute to offer options 1, 2 & 3, however if you had selected option B I want to offer options 4,5 & 6 instead.

At the moment the options available under the second attribute are independant from the first attribute selected, so I have to show all options in the second attribute (1,2,3,4,5,6) even though some of them are not relevant.

Really grateful if someone has an idea on how to tackle this ??!!! :D

Code it. Will be a lot of work though.

Maybe you would be better off by using combined attributes, for example have these attributes:

Option1: A1

Option2: A2

Option3: A3

Option1: B4

Option2: B5

Option3: B6

Thanks Jan

I started looking at coding it last night and your right...its a lot of work and beyond my coding abilities for sure !!!

I think i will settle for a work around like you have suggested for the moment.....

....but would be interested to hear if anyone fancies tackling this coding challenge !?

I think this problem must come up reasonably often for a shop and would be a worthwhile contribution to submit.

There is always someone that can tackle a coding challenge if you are willing to pay something. I have paid for custom coding some things in my cart since I am a PHP newbie.

I agree though, that it would be useful code.

Did anything ever come of this? This is exactly what I need and MANY others....Please let me know if you guys know of any contributions that will do this.

Basically for example the customer chooses and option of Hanes beefy tee then the colors field would list only the colors that beefty was avaiable in.

If customer picked hanes ringer tee...then options in color box would be different.

that is an example of what is needed

I also need something like this. It would be really great! Maybe it's possible to achieve this with ajax? :)
