osCommerce

The e-commerce.

Ok, call me a dummy...

Ok, here goes. I'm totally new to this oscommerce thing. I've been trying to set up a store and have been taking bits of info from this forum, the knowledge base and various bits I could find from the internet. I've been messing about in the files, deleting banner images, oh, all sorts of silly things as I've been feeling my way around. I think now I've wrecked it. :'(

So, the question is... can I start again from scratch? Is there any way of reseting everything back to the beginning? If I were to upload my original oscommerce download file, would that overwrite all the damage I've done?

I know, call me what you like, but it's certainly been a learning experience!

Thanks (meekly)

Jon

Hey Jarris

Havent you been backing up your files??? If so then just upload these files restore database. If not you could try to remember what you did to give you the errors that you have.

The other way if you are renting a server from a third party, you could ask them if they have a recent backup???

Hope this has helped.

Hi Zarren

Did I save a back up? Nooo... I didn't think about that. I shall be using back up more carefully from now on :'(

What I've actually done is messed about with the store logo and now I've lost it. I created a logo, saved it as 'oscommerce.gif' (as per someones tip on the forum to make for an easier upload) and managed to get it to appear on my store. However it was way, way too big. So I made a new smaller one and tried to save it with the same name - but it kept saying I couldn't because it was already in use. So I deleted all entries in the files I could find for 'oscommerce.gif' and tried again. Still no luck. Now I seem to have ended up with a red X where the logo should be. I saved my new smaller logo temporarily as 'oscommerce1.gif' but can't figure how to upload that one now. I'm trying to upload the new logo with my FTP client, butI'm not sure which file/files it should go in to.

So now I'm at a full stop. Any suggestions greatly appreciated!

Hey again jarris

You havent done anything wrong, just upload you picture that was too big to the images folder. Then login to admin click configuration and then click images. You can adjust the header picture size by changing the setting there.

You inage directory is located in your catalog folder for eg "/www/catalog/images" or "/Public_HTML/catalog/images/"

Hope this has helped

Thanks Zarren

Unfortunately things seem to have got worse! The new smaller logo has appeared at the top of my admin pages and is in the catalog/images file but still won't appear on the actual catalog page!

Oh, woe!

because you have placed your picture in the admin image folder lol. Go to your catalog folder, double click images, place your image there and hey presto. If not you can edit your header.php file in catalog/includes/header.php

Thanks Zarren

Hey Zarren

THANK YOU!!

You're a star. I now have a logo at the top of my catalog page.

You couldn't just help me with one other basic thing could you?

How do I change the colours of the boxes from the default light blue?

Thanks so much!

Hey again jarris

You change the default colors in the css stylesheet located in the catalog directory. the infoboxes are controlled by the .infoBox function.
