Don't want the taxes applied to shipping price.

Hi All,

Is there a way I can stop the taxes from being applied to the sub-total and shipping grand total? It took me a while to figure out what was going on. I was adding these colums and coming up with $27.90, while my displayed tolal was $28.31.

Tax Total

---------------------

6% $19.95

--------------------

Sub-Total: $19.95

Tax: $1.20

Shipping: $6.75

Total: $28.31

Finally I realized that the sub-total and shipping were being totaled, then the 6% tax was being applied to that total and then added into the grand total. This would be confusing for a customer. Is there some place that I can go and modify the calculations?

I only want the tax applied to the sub-total, not the shipping.

Thanks in advance.

DO you have a tax class applied to your shipping in the 'Order Total Modules' ?

For a test, I just changed my shipping from Flat Rate to UPS and it's still doing it. On the Checkout Confirmation page it shows the tax as being calculated from the sub-total, but in the final total it's calculated by the sub-total plus the shipping charge. So if you add up the itemized amounts,

the total you'll get is higher than the total shown. It wouldn't be so bad if the taxes were being shown correctly. If I were a customer and saw this, I would think that I was being over charged.

I just want the taxes applied to the sub-total, not the shipping. Isn't there a way that I can fix this. If I could find which file does the calculations, maybe I could modify it.

Thanks again in advance.

I just did a quick install of the latest snapshot and set it up. Here you can see it's still doing the same thing. It's adding up the sub-total and shipping, then taking 6% of that total and adding it to the first total.

Sub-Total: $64.95

Tax: $3.90

Best Way: $6.75

Total: $76.01

What I want is to just do 6% of the sub-total and then add in the shipping and then it will match the total. If someone were to try to make a purchase from me and saw that these totals didn't add up, what would they think?

There has to be some way that I can change the way that the cart is calculating this and make it stop taxing the shipping. Untill then I can just forget about ever going live.

Can someone please point me in the right direction?

Thanks in advance.

Hi jayman...

how did you get the tax to be included on the shipping and the order-cost

this is exactly what i'm looking for however, we seem not to get the nitty-gritty right for this small problem....

First of all, I'm using the latest snapshot I just installed it yesterday. The 2.2 version that I downloaded about 2 weeks ago wouldn't do this.

In Admin ->Modules I have my Sort Order set to:

Shipping=3

Sub-total=1

Tax=2

Total=4

Then I clicked Edit and set:

Display=true

Display tax groups=false

I still have my original install and it's set up the exact same way, but it just won't display Shipping.

Good Luck.
