different products purchased in products and orders_products table

Why is it that when I run sql queries on the orders_products table to get the sum of the products_quantity field I get 2178, and when I run an sql query on the products table to get the sum of the products_ordered field I get 1916. Which one is the real number of products that have been ordered? Shouldn't they be the same?
