Hi folks.

I'm looking at setting up a small web store for a friend and would like to know what components I need.

I need to be able to process credit card transactions via Paypal.

Any help appreciated.

Cheers,

J.

All you need is version 2.2, some webspace that has php4 and a Mysql database, a domain name, and a paypal account. It's pretty easy to install. Just download 2.2, unzip and ftp to your webspace (or vise versa). Then type www.<your domain>/catalog/install in your browser.

Of course youll also need a business license, a federal tax id number, and a state resellers license if you're planning to do retail.

If you plan to get a good host go with www.phpwebhosting. they are use their own server and have un-metered bandwidth. they have everything that oscommerce needs. Highly reccomended.

I just signed up with addaction.com.

They will install oscommerce for you for free, give you 500megs of space, 10gigs of bandwidth, and everything you need for $7 a month. Plus their first 6 months are free (except a $9 setup).

I think they are pretty new, and I had a little downtime last weekend, but you can't beat the value, plus their support rocks.

Sorry Harold,

I have no affiliation with them whatsoever. I just thought it was an outstnading value, and I wish someone had headed me in the right diretion when I first got started. My first experience with a webhost was a disaster.
