I thought the .xml files will be created? I use another xml sitemap contrib which set up a cron job to update the xml nightly and google retreives my updated sitemap on a daily basis. I dont do anything with it, I just let it sit. The version 1.3 by Chemo is the one you should be using. The latter ones have various problems. Once it is installed, following the directions. It generates your initial sitemaps and gives you the code need to create a google account as well as the command needed to set up a cron job so that the files are continually updated.
