selling digital downloads: can't get it to work :(

could someone help me figure out why downloads aren't working? This is what I've done so far:

 

gone to configuration/download and set enable download to true and download by redirect to true.

 

created the product and then went to product attributes. created a new product option called download and for that option a new value called yes. then chose the product I added and made the option name download, option value yes, price 0.0 and prefix blank. I entered the file name exactly as I named it and it has been uploaded to the download directory. I used no spaces and all small letters.

 

I have set the download and pub files to 777.

 

I have changed the configuration.php to be /pub/ instead of pub/ and same for download/.

 

I have then tried several times to buy the product using the check/money order option. the order completes fine. I get an email as both buyer and seller. buyer email has no kind of link or information about downloadable products in it.

 

I go to account history and view that order. there is no link or information about downloading it.

 

I go to the order in admin and set it as delivered. I then get an email on buying id but again I get nothing in the email indicating it is a download or what to do. view it in my account and still there is no download link.

 

can anyone point out where I am going wrong? I sell *physical* products, also. I use multigeozone shipping tables but I used the built in table feature to add a table for the digital products. I wanted to charge 30 cents plus 3% of the total since I assume all downloadable items will be paid by paypal. I changed the words Table Rate to Digital downloads so customers know to choose that option.

 

any help would be appreciated. if you want to go to my store at tresrhnter dot com and do a test purchase just choose check/money order so I can delete the order. you can find my test product by searching for that phrase *test product*.

 

on another thread someone mentioned if you sell both virtual and physical products that you HAD to have the download controller contrib installed. I could not find anyone else verifying that, though. is this true? is that what I am missing?

I would first try setting download by redirect to false.

no, that didn't help :( I also tried buying through another browser in case opera just didn't work right and that didn't help.

 

I looked at the download and pub folders and nothing new has been created in them so I think that means that the product isn't being seen as a downloadable product during checkout but just as a regular product?

ok, I got it working. I tried creating a second test product and that one works. I created this first one before creating the product attributes so maybe that is why that one isn't seen as a virtual product?

 

hope this helps someone else. now I'd really like to charge a processing fee on virtual products to cover paypal fees so off to see how to do that since my table as posted above doesn't work right.
