How to learn the INs & OUTs of osCommerce?

Hi all,

Just wondering if there is any documentation out there that really goes in to detail about how the nuts & bolts of oscommerce fit together.... I was a little dissappointed by the documentation....

The reason for the request is that I'd want to do some pretty heavy customisation to it but need an idea of how everything fits together.

I'm starting to think that I'd be better off starting from scracth and learning to code what I want.

any ideas???

cheers

I have not found any significant readings on oscommerce developement. I have been working with oscommerce myself for about 7 months, and the only way I learned was through trial and error, and trying some of the great contributions out there, and figuring out how they are all structured. Have fun with it, and always back everything up before you make irreversible changes.

Good Luck

I think that even thought Oscommerce it's a great program, the lack of support is NOT!

It's amazing that this is a very LARGE forum with around 1000 active members at any given time, and still almost anybody answers your questions...and that is on THE TOPIC, because you'll receive some "help" trough Private Messages asking you for money to "fix" and "improve” your store! First off, I WON'T give access to my site to an estranger for ANY amount or even for "free" help!

I've lost many, many hours trying to make this "free" shopping cart work...I should have bought the SC that at least had a sticker price of $175 (with support included) and I would have SAVED my more valuable time!

I am almost finished with my osCommerce SC, but a recommendation for the new comers ...please BUY another SC that offers support! Even this forum is running with an In-vision board that is NOT open source software like phpBB forum boards!

I hope my post won't be deleted.

Thanks,

Cesar Rubio.

Hi Sam,

I'm new to OsCommerce too and am the world's biggest, completely clueless newbie, but wanted to say how wonderfully helpful the forums members have been. Sure...it may take a bit to get an answer, but it's worth the wait.

Also, there are quite a few books available on OsCommerce through Amazon.com - I purchased OsCommerce for beginners and have learned quite a bit. There is also a professional version/book out there too, so check out Amazon.com and realize that the people here are the best resource and are always willing to help.
