Guest Posted February 1, 2007 Posted February 1, 2007 Hi, I've been gone a while. Everything seems to still be working great. Thanks! I wondered if anyone knew where to catch the first table in order to keep the table to 1000 or so bytes. The newer monitors are so wide, the little bit of data there doesn't look good spread out to 1280 or wider. Any help is appreciated. Tried to search for it but can't seem to find it.
Guest Posted February 1, 2007 Posted February 1, 2007 This should say "keep the PAGE WIDTH to 1000 pixels......" DUH.
Jack_mcs Posted February 1, 2007 Posted February 1, 2007 The majority of web surfers still use 800x600, if at least while resizing. By setting your width that large, you are causing a horizontal scroll to occur for a lot of people. That gives a very bad impression of your site. You should install one of the center shops contributions and set the width to 100%. That way, it will display full page no matter what resolution is used, assuming the rest of the shop is coded properly. Guest Posted February 2, 2007 Posted February 2, 2007 Thanks for the advice but what width to use is not the question. I don't agree with the 800 x 600 anymore, as it out moded. Even YAHOO has gone to 950 FIXED with borders. I would like a fixed width because the site is already working using 100% and on a 1280 x 800 screen (or larger) it starts to look like crap because it's too sparse. The screen is too stretched out. Conversely, the text is too long and scrunched up smaller. I don't really have time to keep reworking the home page, so I just want a quick fix. So back to the question. Is there any way to set a fixed width for the page? Any help would be appreciated.
Jack_mcs Posted February 2, 2007 Posted February 2, 2007 The usage of 800x600 is going down but it is still considered sloppy coding to have a page that scrolls. But that is, obviously, up to you. As far as setting the width, I've already given the answer. Install a center shop contribution. Instead of setting it to 100%, set it to 950, or whatever you prefer.
