PJ2006 Posted January 30, 2007 Posted January 30, 2007 Hi, I really want to use this, but I just don't seem to be able to install it. I have removed my existing OScommerce shop and done a clean install. Using FTP, I then uploaded the files from the Modified_files/catalog and new_files/catalog. I did the modified files first. Should I just select the catalog folder and upload file and folders - my ftp client only allows me to upload one at a time - which should I do first the files or the folders? I have tried both ways but with no luck. I've read through loads of posts and saw other people have had similar and read replies about not uploading to admin, but the modified_files/catalog has an Admin folder - so am I going wrong by uploading all of the files if I should not be uploading Admin - why is it there? Sorry to ask such stupid questions but I really want to get going with this, I think it will be the solution I am looking for. Perhaps if I get it sorted I should post an installation for dummies instruction file! Would really appreciate some instructions. Oh I also saw a reply where it said do the chmod thing to 777, I'm not sure which files I should do this on (though having said this can't find where to make these changes, using ws_ftp) Thanks and sorry for being such a dunce, I'm new to e-commerce. Lottie  Quote

Also, you may find more help in the STS4 forum: http://www.oscommerce.com/forums/index.php?sho...381&st=1420 Hi Bill, I did as you suggested. I installed a new FTP client. I selected the catalog directory in Modified_files and copied it over the catalog directory on my hosting site then I selected the catalog directory in new_files and copied it over the catalog directory in my hosting site. I then reconnected to my store - no error messages, but as I understand it under Modules there should be an extra link called sts - or am I wrong about that? Thanks Lottie  Quote
PJ2006 Posted January 30, 2007 Author Posted January 30, 2007 Some more information. I'm working through the installation doc. There is a section about making manual changes - I had assumed that this was ony if you had a modified store, which I don't. Thought maybe not doing this was the problem. I opened my admin/modules.php - but canot find switch($set){ Does this mean I have not some how copied the files over properly? Thanks Lottie :'( Quote
PJ2006 Posted January 30, 2007 Author Posted January 30, 2007 I got it to work, thanks to Bill for his help! I'm still not entirely sure if I'm meant to do the manual changes, but I'm guessing these are ony if it's not a fresh install - perhaps someone can confirm? Thanks Lottie :D Quote

Thanks Lottie :D No, you do not need to do the manual changes if you just would prefer to copy the files included in the contribution. The manual changes are provided for those who have a modified osCommerce and prefer to edit the code on their own. Are you still not seeing the STS option under Modules in your store's Admin section? By the way, which version of STS are you installing? STSv4.3.3 is the most recent. I'm currently ploughing through the User Manual and experimenting to see what I can do - and searching old threads so I don't drive everyone mad with 100 questions!!!! STS looks fantastic, I think the only problems I will have are down to my lack of knowledge!! Thanks for all your help. Regards Lottie Quote

No, it is not. Prior to STSv4.3.3, this was caused by having Gzip compression turned on in the Admin. Go ahead and turn off Gzip compression to rule that out. If it helps, then that means you are still missing some files from the contribution because STSv4.3.3 has the Gzip fix included. Also, make sure you have Search Friendly URLs turned off in Admin as well. This part of osCommerce is still in development and is not very stable.
