DragonImpact
Hi, Brand new at this so please bear with me if I have made a complete oversight. While installing osCommerce I set the Configure.php files in the INCLUDES and ADMIN/INCLUDES to 777. After all was done I set them back to 644. (I even tried 444 and 400) Problem is now I have a pink bar at the top of the screen while looking at my site and it says : ---- Warning: I am able to write to the configuration file: /home1/dragoni/public_html/osc/includes/configure.php. This is a potential security risk - please set the right user permissions on this file. ---- What did I miss? test site : http://dragonimpact.com/osc/index.php Thank you VERY much for your time, Alex. Hi Alex, The path for your config file as seen in pink-ed error message is /home1/dragoni/public_html/osc/includes/configure.php So you will need to change the permission of the above config.php file to 644 (or read only in Windows) See if it works? Cheers  Nirvana
DragonImpact
Hi, Thanks but I have tried changing all the configuration files to either 644, 444, and 400 and yet I still get the error message. I wiped out the install of that osCommerce and re-installed a new one in a new directory and still get the same error message : "Warning: I am able to write to the configuration file: /home1/dragoni/public_html/catalog/includes/configure.php. This is a potential security risk - please set the right user permissions on this file." I have sent an email to my host (canaca.com) and will see what they have to say but I would aprreciated getting my site up asap. Please help ... please? ... with sugar on top?? Alex. DragonImpact
Hi, Yes I am changing them using the SmartFTP program and right-clicking the file and selecting 'Properties/CHMOD' whih opens a window where I can either enter the number or select the read/write/etc options. I have tried both ways. Entering the code and selecting the Read options. Is there something maybe with SmartFTP? It tell me in a window that the changes were made yet I still get this error message with osCommerce page. http://www.dragonimpact.com/catalog/ Thanks, Alex. how are you trying to change permissions? through FTP? jasonabc
A lot of hosts do not allow you to change permissions using FTP. Use the File Manager in your web hosting control panel to do this instead. DragonImpact
Hi, Believe it or not I also just thought of that and logged into cPanelX and went to the File Manager. There I tried to change the permissions to 644 from 777 but it didn't work. If I looked at the same file I changed it appears that it went back to it's original 777 configuration and didn't save my changes. I feel that this isn't an osCommerce problem but rather a problem my host needs to fix. If you know of any ways to get around this let me know. I tried uploading a new config file set to read-only but that didn't change the permissions either. Thanks. Alex. A lot of hosts do not allow you to change permissions using FTP.
