Google SSL cert and you will find some companies offering an SSL Certificate, some more expensive than others. You will need one if you want to accept credit card payments from customers. And even placing a cash order customers feel safer when entering their personal information. If you don't have one, a good percentage of sales will be lost. -Dave
Guest
yes...you definately need one. It provides the user with a secure environment. An SSL certificate provides encryption to secure the data being tramitted through the web. Without one it is very easy for someone to intercept the data that the user enters. If, for some reason, one of your customer's information is retrieved and misused it could possibly mean a lawsuit. I wouldn't get too nervous about this. The main thing is to provide a secure environment so that you are not responsible for negligence. SSL certificates are very easy to impliment. Like Dave said, you can google SSL and find companies to provide you with certificates at various prices. A lot of times your host provider will provide you with a "shared certificate" for free. All this means is that the address will be an alias of your true domain, usually adding the host's name at the end (i.e. [https://www.yours.c3.hostprovider.com]). I find this a bit tacky, but certainly saves a good deal of cash. SSL certificates can be pricey, but are definately necessary. hope this helps. Jack_mcs
Search the web. Godaddy is the best choice, in my opinion, but there are others. It is all the same basic certificate, the main difference is the customer service.
