Testing IPN with the PayPal Sandbox

Hi All -

I am currently trying to test the PayPal IPN using the PayPal sandbox setup. Currently the process stalls after the customer is redirected to the store. The only manner in which I can get the process to complete is to go in and manually run the order through the IPN test panel. Is this normal? Is there a way to replicate the entire process from checkout through database updates using just the sandbox.

Thanks!

Yes, that is what it is meant for. But the sandbox has to be set up properly and your IPN module has to be in test mode. Before an order is ran, you have to start the sandbox. If you are just testing paypal to see if it works for your shop, it is easier to just enable it and have someone do a live test order.

Hi Jack - Thanks for the reply!

So just to be certain that I've got this right - I should be able to 'automatically' test the IPN via the PayPal sandbox? I am currently able run orders through PayPal sandbox, but the IPN portion of the process doesn't seem to be functioning. I can go in after the fact and use the IPN test panel successfully, but I have not been able to replicate the checkout process all the way through. I am just wanting to confirm that I have a correct understanding of how it should function in test mode before I go in and break it : )

Thanks again!

Yes, you should be able to test the complete order. However, the emails are not sent to your shop. They are sent to the sandbox email section.
