BigLar
What are the best practices when it comes to keywords? My site uses the Header Tags Controller contribution and Ultimate SEO URLs. I sell reptiles and wonder what the best keywords are to use. For instance I sell Leopard Geckos. I have different morphs of Leopard Geckos too. I have some of my geckos setup like this: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Meta Tag Information Products Page Title: Leopard Geckos Page Header Description: Leopard Geckos Product Keywords: Leopard Geckos ** I've added "tampa" to some -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- And some like this: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Meta Tag Information Products Page Title: Partial Reverse Striped Albino Page Header Description: Partial Reverse Striped Albino Product Keywords: Partial Reverse Striped Albino Leopard Gecko tampa -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Also, should I drop the "s" after Leopard Geckos? BigLar
Gecko, leopard gecko, Geckos, leopard geckos, lizard gecko The list is endless I was unsure whether this should be kept simple like "Leopard Gecko" or a large list of keywords. Should my list of keywords be separated with a comma? Would this be better? -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Meta Tag Information Products Page Title: Leopard Geckos Page Header Description: Leopard Geckos Product Keywords: Leopard Gecko, baby gecko, gecko, reverse stripe leopard gecko, lizard, albino leopard gecko, leopard gecko tampa, leopard gecko for sale tampa -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Thanks!!! Jack_mcs
The list should be separated by commas. Any more than three keywords per page is generally not a good idea. You shouldn't just pick keywords because they sound like they might be good choices. They need to be researched with online tools like Overture. What good is it if you reach a number one position for a keyword and no one is searching for that keyword? satish
You need to research on Key Phrases rather then Keywords. Once done then optimize considering those Key phrases. Jack_mcs
Just curious, why is more then three not a good idea? I haven't been able to get on Overture yet. The keywords by themselves don't count for much if just used in the meta tags. They have to be used in the text on the page. That usage doewn't mean much if what is called the keyword density (KD), which is a ratio of the number of times the keyword is used in relation to the total number of words, is not around 4-6%. To achieve that for three keywords generally requires around 500 words (it will vary with how the text is worded, of course). If you have 30 keywords, then the text required to support them would be around 5,000 words. Most, if not all, customers, upon seeing a page with such a large amount of text will just leave. reflous
Not to be discouraging, but I think the usefulness of your keywords depends on what market you're in. I've played with keywords for seven years and have yet to have a result anywhere near what I get from google base, yahoo shopping, shopzilla, or anything else that lets me put my products in and allows users to do a price comparison.. My market (clothing) may be just be messed up this way because my keywords are going to be super-generic like "t-shirts" "sweatshirts". (However that said, I do have two keywords that consistently drive in business, so maybe I'm just incapable of picking the "right" keywords).
