problem with globals on in oscommerc it affects my website which needs it of

I see that it is necessary for OS commerce to work that the globals must be on, however, I also use Joomla for a website and it needs the globals off. When I turn the globals off, my shopping cart does not work. I do not have a php.ini file and am afraid I am not sure what to do so that I don't mess up either program. Please advise.
