Changing customer passwords

Recommended Posts

A customer called me and requested that I edit his password via the server, I can see all my customers information but can not see password information, is there a way to edit the customers personal information through OSC? I was able to reset his password using the "forgot my password" form but it was very unprofessional I'd much rather do it live. Is there a way to access/view/modify account passwords on OSC?

Thanks

No.

I think it's MD5 no ? You can't modify.

In theory - you could go into the customers profile, set the email address to you, use the forgot password, then you get the email, then login with the new credentials, then change the password to what he wants it to be, then go back and change the email field back to his.

Sounds complicated - but this would likely take you about 3 minutes to go through this process.

Thank you David, as usual you're on the money I didn't think of that. :)

Test it out Bill - once you do it once or twice I'm sure you could easily do it with the client still on the phone with you - and him not even knowing what is happening.

MD5 hashing is for security obviously - you *could* change this within your db structure, but not a great idea.

Just explain to the client that this is a basic security measure to ensure your profile content remains safe from hackers, blah blah blah blah blah blah

:-)
