Images Broken

Bit of a strange one this, i have 1800+ items on my site, most with pictures. Most display fine but some show as broken links. I try deleting the pic and reuploading but it still doesn't work. I rename the file to jpeg instead of jpg and it works.

 

The thing is, it will stop working again after a bit, any ideas?
