stockmom123 Posted January 24, 2007 Posted January 24, 2007 I am transfering a website and want to get the store set up on the new site first before changing the DNS over. (Old site uses a different store.) I can see the demo install store but not the admin. Can I do this before the DNS changes over by using the IP address or will this mess up once the DNS does get changed over?
stockmom123 Posted January 24, 2007 Author Posted January 24, 2007 Isn't this a common problem? Has anyone else had to deal with this?...setting up a store before the DNS has been changed to point to your store?
Jack_mcs Posted January 24, 2007 Posted January 24, 2007 You can set up the configure files to use the IP and the site will function normally. When you are ready to transfer the domain, you will need to change the configure files to use the domain name. blakemiller Posted January 25, 2007 Posted January 25, 2007 I am doing the exact same thing, but with an intermediate step. First off, this site/cart is already installed and fully configured. I first installed and configred the cart on the "domain instant alias" address that i have in the host. It's similar to going straight to the IP address. However, today, in order to get SSL on my host, i need to change to fixed IP address. So, i have the IP address for the site, but now the domain alias is no longer valid, so my entire site is down. What "config" files do we change to re-direct the cart to the new server settings/IP address? I've checked many config files in the cart, and even dug around the database itself some but couldn't find anything remote to where all the server settings are stored. I'll need to do it again when we throw the switch on the DNS. Thanks for the help.
Jack_mcs Posted January 25, 2007 Posted January 25, 2007 There are only two config files: includes/configure.php and admin/includes/configure.php. But you can't use an ssl certificate with an IP since the certificate only works for the domain name it was created for. stockmom123 Posted January 28, 2007 Author Posted January 28, 2007 I tried changing the two config files you said to change and the admin login box comes up. After I enter the login and password a blank page displays. Any suggestions?
Jack_mcs Posted January 28, 2007 Posted January 28, 2007 Without seeing it I can only guess and that would be that you don't have the url formatted properly.
