Products Attributes

Let's say you sell shoes. The same pair of shoes might come in different sizes, colors, with and without shoe laces and so on. Instead of creating a different product for each one of those, you would use attributes. So on the product page for that pair of shoes, there would be a drop down list that would allow the customer to select which size they wanted, another for which color, another for with and without shoe laces and so on. If you had another pair of shoes to sell that was a different product, you could apply the same attributes. You can see that, in this example, what might be 40 or so products if done separately, can be done with just two and the common product attributes. They are very handy.

OK, further to my post above... I've had a little look at this, and have to say I'm completely confused by this :(

If anyone can throw anymore light into how I set these up I would be really appreciative :)

I'm particularly interested in which order I set the attributes up ie -

Product Options

Option Values

Products Attributes

In other words which comes first....

Many thanks :)

I was confused by this at first too. Follow the link Jack_mcs posted, it makes sense, but I would like to add one thing that I got stuck on (until I walked away from the computer and looked at it fresh 10 minutes later)....I couldn't figure out how to add mulitple values like S,M,L....it would only let select one at a time.....

here's the important bit....I had to choose the product again and then assign another value. This product them shows multiple times in your product attributes listing....once for every value....

Hope this is helpful....
