whiterider
Hi there, I'm using oscommerce template and already connects to Paypal from my admin of control panel. So here is my questions: 1) Is it necessary to activate the SSL? 2) is there any costed to activate SSL? 3) If question number one is "yes". Why do i need to activate SSL if Paypal is already secure. But everybody know that Paypal is the most used and secure....Why do i still need to connect to SSL? Thank You for your answer! KV
Guest
1) Yes 2) Possibly 1) You need SSL as you will be expecting customers to enter personal details on your site (such as name/address) to create account or checkout items. Customers will not do this is they can see a site does not have SSL (everyone knows to look for the "padlock" in the browser before sending any personal info. 2) Your hosting package may include a shared SSL or dedicated SSL cert depending upon host & package. If not you do not need an expensive cert - they all do the same thing. Tom

Tom Also, if you enable SSL your shop will work through an SSL when customers come to login and purchase etc, not by simply browsing through your website. I personally will not enter any personal information (address, phone number etc) on a non secure server when it comes to shopping. Enabing SSL may be the difference between people just looking at your site and paying customers. -- Cheers, John
satish
So here is my questions: 1) Is it necessary to activate the SSL? needed if collect CC details on your site. This will be the case if WPP is what You are going to use. 2) is there any costed to activate SSL? shared SSL is generally free provided by hosting company else a cost is associated. Also the page download will be a bit slower. 3) If question number one is "yes". Why do i need to activate SSL if Paypal is already secure. But everybody know that Paypal is the most used and secure....Why do i still need to connect to SSL? Well only for Paypal WPP.Where Your site is considered as a virtual terminal You need SSL else it is not needed as all CC details are entered when on Paypal site. Thanks!! Satish Mantri but you'll find that even if you are not taking CC details many customers will not place any orders if you do not have SSL (even if using paypal) becuase they are still required to enter personal details on your site for their account etc etc - in essence SSL is essential for all stores if you want customer to actually buy anything.
