Hi Guys,

Just building my first adwords campaign and ive been puzzled by this for a couple of hours now, searched everywhere and cant get an answer!

http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&s...earch&meta=

If you click that link you will see theres somebody called "price runner.co.uk" or something and then the usual adword links down the right hand side! Is pricerunner in THE FIRST POSTION or is this a different type of ad, if so whats it called?

Im sure theres a really obvious answer, i just seemed to be stumped!

Thanks in Advance!

...This really is puzzling!

Well, it would seem you are not only new to osc but also to www & ses. If your pocket is really deep, then just pay the SEs and you'll become an ultimate SE expert overnight! because your site will then always show top of the page whenever searchers key in some search words relevant to your site. Dont worry these SEs know how to do this, their hugh revenue depends on it. Other than that, those so called SEO company/experts are simply rubbish: if they can as they claim guarantee your site will at the top of the search result w/o paying SEs, then SEs would lose all their revenue, or wouldnt they?

Forget about seo urls, header tags etc if you got the money! Otherwise, you can try these "every little helps" tricks and fingers cross! At least you got this feel good factor.

thing is ken, several of my competitors have top keyword listing using the standard OSC contributions (ive check their sourcecode). I dont have a large budget and would rather try doing it myself! Thanks for your advice tho!

Back on topic-

BOTH the links on the right and under the search term are "sponsored links" so im no further along?

Google states clearly that high quality back links would help a site's page ranking, which seem to be one the few 'secrets' google makes public, and the length of time you are in the business (online) also contributes to it.

The links on the right which you are refering to as "sponsored links" are adwords. As I said earlier if you have adwords, this is where they are displayed, they are also displayed in adsense. You pay per click, if you want more exposure you not only pay per click but pay google a monthly payment as well. I dont know why they are called sponsored links probably because you are paying for them. I dont know where your from but where I am you pay google $59 a month plus your bid for each keyword. (When someone clicks). I think the $59 a month is so your ads are shown more often on google in the right side coloum. But the right side coloum are definately adwords.

I didnt miss understand, you want to know why the 2 - 3 ads are on the top left. As I said, You pay to be there. Depending on where you are and what company you go through you can pay Something like this:

Setup $199

Monthly $69

Plus the cost of each adword (bid/per click)

Just google sponsored links & you'll find your answer.

Also, it should be pointed out that google adwords listings (the regular ones on the right-hand side) are performance based vs. cost-per-click strictly... This means that if you can manage to write ad copy in your adwords listing that gets more clicks than other ads, yours will move up the list more and more for potentially less money than other people are bidding... This is because if you bid say, 20 cents per click, and someone else is bidding 50 cents per click for the same keyword(s), but yours gets 5 times more clicks than the 50 cent ad, google is actually making twice as much money from your ad's clicks, and on the other end of things, you're getting 5 times the clickthrough traffic that your competitor is, so make sure to write good copy... And if you're trying to build backlinks to your page, one route is link exchanges, as long as you make sure they're from relevant sites, but another often-overlooked factor is starting an affiliate program on your site... If you can recruit affiliates to list your products on their pages, then A) for each affiliate, you're getting one or more extra backlinks to your site, and one-way, which helps your score even more, and B) you can almost guarantee that they're coming from relevant sites... No one's going to list lingerie on a children's book site, or used car parts on a site that sells antiques... This also converts to more potential traffic to your site through these affiliate links, and even if you get no traffic through them, that means you don't have to pay anything to the affiliate, but it's at least a free backlink :)
