I am finding the book very frustrating as nothing appears to work as it should.

Whatever I try I cannog get php page on page 36 of the book to connect to the mysql database. I keep getting the message on page 37 but I am definately using the correct name and password. I have tried and tried but it will just not connect. I have reset up the database as well.

Secondly When trying to install oscommerce on the development server I cannot get it to install - I select the new installation option as per the bottom of page 42 but nothing basically happens.

I am at my whits end LOL which is silly really - just thought following a book would be easier that it appears to be. There doesnt appear to be any support from the publishers so I am really hoping that someone can help me.

I am using mysql 4.1 / php5 and apache 2.0

Many Thanks Jonathan Keay

Have you tried using or installing XAMPP?

It is really easy and it everything you need.

I am new as well and I am using the same book.

All is well for me until I got to the installing OSC part.

have patience
