I have a store that sells clothing. One style of pants come in a variety of sizes, colours and materials. However, some of the sizes are not available for for some of the materials in some of the colours.

For example:

Black Pants

100% Cotton

XS-XXXL regular, S-XL Tall

Cotton/Polyester Blend

S-XL regular, M-XL Tall

So, while all sizes are available in 100%, not all are available in the Cotton/Poly blend. However, on my product page (on the consumer side) there are two drop boxes, one with sizes, one with materials.

Is there a way that I can make it so when they choose "Cotton/Polyester" blend in the material drop box, the size box changes accordingly? As it stands, they are able to choose the pants in the Cotton/Poly blend, in an XXXL, even though this size is unavailable.

I hope this makes sense!

I've been trying to find out how to do something like that but I don't think anyone knows how. Good luck.

why not make it two different products? the black 100% cotton pants, and the black poly blend pants?

I could, but it would be too much of a headache since most of the products in this one category (over 25) have that option, but only a couple have limited sizes in in one material or the other.

youd rather just not offer those products than simply create a new product entry for them in your store? that makes no sense to me, but hey, its your store.

What? Yeah, I can do that.

LOL, put away your claws :P You're right, though, it is my store.

It isn't as simple as creating a new product entry because each one of these product entries has many options and, if I made one pair of pants available in two entries (e.g., cotton and poly/cotton), I would have to do the same with all my other pants and tops so as to not confuse the customer. 30 products will now turn into 60. Plus, each one of these pants has about 10 different sizes available. Thus, I would have to create, for example, 30 new products with 10 attributes each...do the math. The time isn't worth it for a couple pairs of pants that have slightly less available in the way of sizes.

no claws, just pointing out the insanity.

i run stores with thousands of products and even more attributes, so that complex math you pointed out equals squat. but its all relative. id rather put in more work than stop offering certain products.

What? Yeah, I can do that.

Then i suppose you are better than I am.

I am new at this whole thing, and am more concerned with getting the store up and running than worrying about a couple products. I asked for help with one thing, and am not sure why you even bothered answering since you did not help, and commented on how you thought things should be run, without any regard to my situation.

And please remember that if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all. It wasn't necessary for you to respond to a post just to tell me how dumb or "insane" I am being. Unless you have anything that can help me (beyond telling me that my math means squat to you, or that I am being insane), do not respond. I am not interested in what you have to say unless it is to answer my original problem. Thank you.

 oooh snap!

I gave you a much simpler solution than what you originally were looking for, and a much better solution than just not selling those products. you don't want to make the effort, fine. but no one here is going to do your work for you. we offer good solutions and help, the rest is up to you.

What? Yeah, I can do that.
