www.oscdox.com has shown to be a good starting point.

  • 3 weeks later...

I have no experience with PHP or MYSQL and I do not understand fully what to do in order to get OSCommerce up & running.

I know that I can edit the HTML in the PHP files to alter the look of my shop, but I am still unsure what I need to do regarding MYSQL databases & administration.

I have installed OSCommerce 2.2 via my hosts Control Panel. There is also an admin panel for OSCommerce, and a PHP myadmin panel.

I do not know which panels to use for which tasks.

Please do not delete this post as I really need help. If you need me to be more specific please let me know.

cheers,

Have you tries accessing your shop thru a browser.

If you admin panel has installed the software on your domain try

www.yourdomain.com/catalog/default.php

If this works then your hosts install has done all of the dirty leg work.

If it returns a 404 error message then either oscommerce hasn't been installed or it's using a different directory. Ask your hosts.

If you get an error message regarding your database or about not being able to include files then you will need to set up the oscommerce configure files.

www.yourdomain.com/catalog/install/

and follow the instructions.

Trust me, I'm an Accountant.

here you can download a pdf-file that should give you quite some information.

And your provider is not willing to help? I mean, he installs it for you and when it comes to support he sends you to us? That is kind of unfair, but we will try to help as much as we can. Maybe you can suggest your provider to support our project a bit as we are now doing part of his job ;-)

We only delete posts that are in clear violation of our forum rules. Yours is certainly not, so you don't have to fear that ;-)

What exactly are your problems? The more descriptive you are the better we can help. Please read that manual I suggested above and see if that helps in solving your problems.
