osCommerce

The e-commerce.

How to protect site in testing mode from indexing spiders, etc.

I am in the beginning stages of putting up my commerce site. Bought my oscommerce template from template monster. Am able to edit PHP and HTML, etc.

I want to put the site up (perhaps password-protected?) but not have it accessible by spiders or accidental would-be customers.

I don't want to test on my PC as I have no SQL or Apache server. My hosting service does. Thanks.

The only sure way is to pass protect it. I you want to be the only person looking at it, that is what you should do. Otherwise you could put a robots.txt in the directory where you store is. Just search Google for blocking bots with robots.txt.

Other great Open Source (Free) programs: (Free as in free speech not free beer)

The Gimp - An image program. | Firefox - All you have to do is add the Web Developer add-on to make this web browser complete. | FileZilla - An ftp program. | Inkscape - A good program to create images with. | Thunderbird - An email program. | Openoffice.org - An office suite that is compatible with MS Office. | Abiword - Another office suite. | Audacity - A sound recording tool. | ddp's Picks | Wordpress - An easy to use blogging software. | Joomla - An easy to use CMS that has ecommerce plug-ins. | Drupal - Another CMS

How do I find these programs? Google Search!
