Installation nightmare

TeacherBoards

Recommended Posts

Dear All,

I'm new to osCommerce, but am desperate to get going with it.

However, I've been trying (and failing) to install it !

I've uploaded the 'Catalog' file to my public folders, follwed all the instructions etc, but whenever I go to .../catalog/install/, I get an 'Error 403 - you do not have permission to view these files' etc message.

I've tried to change the access attributes, by right clicking on each of the Catalog folders and files in FileZilla, and selecting 'File Attributes', then selecting every box, so that the numeric valuie is changed to '777'. However, if I go out the go back in again and check the value, it's always changed back to '700'.....

I'm going totally nuts and as I'm new to it, it's impossible to know whether I'm doing something wrong, or there's a problem with my hosting account, or my company firewall etc etc etc......

Any help would be greatfully appreciated and I promise to pass on any info gleamed onto every newbie I see on the forum with the same problem!

Cheers

Bill

Ask your hoster about the permissions problem. Sometimes they need to resent your rights or will tell you how to initialize your rights so you can set permissions... a good thing to know as sometimes during maintenance you may need at some point to reinitialize as this problem could reoccur.

Cheers
