Guest Posted January 15, 2007 Posted January 15, 2007 Hi All, I am in desperate need of help please, I am very new to OS, however I would say that I am very much computer literate. I am trying to launch my new Ecommerce Web Site, of which I have created and designed my own holding page using Photoshop. www.perfume2you.co.uk However I am going to be using OS and will shorlty upload the software onto my FTP at FastHosts, using Cyber Duck, as I use a MAC. I am trying to find out how do I create a main template such as one of the OS Commerce Live Shops (www.scent2us.co.uk) and then use the OS software behind it as with what they have done. I know this might be a stab in the dark but I would appreicate any help from anybody who may want to help a NEWBI get his sight up and running as they say. Please feel free to email me at [email protected] or you may even give me a call of which i can return you back on so no charge for yourself. 01162511033 Vaughan Cartwright UNITED KINGDOM
spax Posted January 15, 2007 Posted January 15, 2007 Your design wouldn't be too difficult to implement, although too involved for anyone to give a straight forward 'how to' answer. Are you a Burnley, Villa or West Ham fan btw? Call it a hunch! ;) You need to read through the documentation and this forum, grab a basic understanding of HTML, PHP and MySql and you should be well away. Basically, there are 5 elements that control the look of any given page. For the main page they are: index.php, header.php, footer.php, column_left.php and column_right.php. While the code within is important, you can pretty much move things around as you wish. You need to jump in and play around with it. Make sure you always make copies of files you are going to change so if you mess up, it doesn't matter, just reinstate the copy. Any specific questions you have, if you can't find the answers by reading through the forum, just post a thread and someone will always help you out. The scent2us site is a templatemonster template. If you don't have the time to learn osC, there are some good ones on their site and not too expensive. Although you would miss out on all the fun and sense of achievement, if you go down that road. Good luck!
