The Osc text is there to give you a format to follow for editing an index page... If you do want text you adapt that format and your categories by default are in the columns on the side. If you want to have the first page as products in the center there are great contributions above in the menu under "Community/Contributions". Do a search ("products" for example) and you can see what one would be the most adapted. A simple example is Products on front page.
