Is it possible - to use OSC to sell a postage/shipping service?

Hi there, I would be keen to know members opinions on using OSC as a way to sell postage and shipping services between UK and other countries.

 

My idea is simple enough, have a product which is a postal service, attributes can be selected based on size and weight of the item being sent.

 

Customer registers, selects the product that suits their item to send, chooses relevent attributes from the options for that product, enters a destination address (delivery address) and pays.

 

I know what I want it to do but am unsure if it can actually be done, I've had a quick search around the site but cannot see any mention of anyone doing a similar thing.

 

Comments, suggestions and if applicable suggested relevent contributions very much appreciated.

I don't think it would be hard to customize OsC to do that.

 

I'm curious about how that service would work. Would you then go and pick up the item? Like a courier service?

Thanks for the reply. The idea is that there are pre-defined pickup locations in major towns in our area, and run it like a courier service yes.

 

I am currently building a stand alone application for it, but was curious, having worked with OSC a fair bit, if there was an "easier" way to do it with OSC.

Add a multiple store contrib.

 

Add a vendor locator or multiple vendor (MVS is very cumbursome after you add MS howver, vendor locator should suffice).

 

SPU for store pickup will be a good option to startwith. (Very Simple)

 

There are two delivery contribs. Pls pick the suitable. (you can search for Home delivery in contribs, I am sure you will find more.).

 

For Shipping there are several contribs.

 

I hope you will get along well with osC.

 

I already have live site with 'pickup' and 'Home Delivery' contribs in place (the difference with your requirement is my site has standard cost system for both features, but I am sure shipping tables would come very handy here for you.)
