zwayne
What is the point of the text box for Tell a Friend? Doesn't matter what I type in there; when I click the envelope icon it loads tell_a_friend.php in which one enters the email details. The "to_email_address" in the original text box doesn't seem to get referenced at all. Does this work properly for anyone? (BTW, I noticed MANY postings regarding Tell a Friend problems with few responses and even fewer solutions. Although the emails do work for me.) Guest
No one should keep this box on their website, period. Dave from aol.com sends a Tell A Friend message to Karen at yahoo.com You should look at this item, Karen! I think you'd like it! Yahoo does a reverse lookup on the email and says this is garbage. This is someone sending a phish mail. Because...they see in the headers that the email did NOT come from Dave at aol.com It came from www.whateveryourwebsiteiscalled.com Straight into the spam folder. Your friend, Karen at yahoo.com, will never see it. Besides...the Tell A Friend box is a great opportunity for others to use to send countless porn links to Lord knows who and how many...and who's to blame? You are. All of the emails are originating from your website. You end up on the spam list from hell. The one that says your website is guilty and responsible for sending thousands and thousands of spam letters. You'll never get another order in your inbox again. Whatever column you have that box in...put two forward slashes in front of the requires call....//...and kill it. Just my opinion.
matrix2223
I disagree. The tell a friend box is a form of free advertising. To further disagree there is contribs like tell a friend about site to and their is a a contrib out there to where you have to input a security text code. Which in turn eliminates spam. Unless there is someone waisting there time going through and send junk. I have both of the above and I receive a copy of the email therefore if it does happen I know exactly who, when, and where it went to.

I am having the problem that on my new store anytime I try to use the tell a friend box the email is never delivered. Whats the problem?
zwayne
One always needs to ensure that appropriate sanitizing is done to prevent form spam, although I haven't yet checked the osc code to see if it does this. Regardless, my question wasn't related to this; it was basically "what is the point of the Tell a Friend text box since it doesn't seem to pass the email address to the tell_a_friend.php? wheeloftime
Doesn't for me... What's your environment (PHP4/5, MySql4/5, register_globals setting etc.) ? Any contribs done which could affect this area of osCommerce ? Difficult to say anything more without looking at your sources.
