Extra fields during checkout

Hi everyone,

 

Can anyone tell me or walk me through the process of adding additional fields to the checkout process.

 

I tried looking for a contribution to do this, but could only find the contribution around extra fields for products.

 

For example, I want to allow the customer to designate whether the delivery address is a residential address or a business address and I want to present this as either radio buttons or a drop down list.

if you search the contributions for checkout you can find a list of various modules that alter the checkout process adding various dynamic and static fields.
