This is only a suggestion, I would not have a clue how to do it.

But I think it would be easy to implement.

 

A drop down that allows new members during sign up to tell you where they heard about your site.

 

e.g

google

a friend

newspaper ad

 

etc

 

The options could be inserted/deleted somewhere in the admin panel

 

The module could then allow you to graphically view a report based on the selections chosen by new members. That way you know which form of advertising works best.

 

e.g

 

google, |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||| 3000 members 52 %

newspaper |||||||||||||200 members 10 %

friend ||||||||||||||||||||||||500 members 14 %

 

etc etc

Why don't you use the polls module, it does the same thing. And you can write in all those search engines plus more.

Good thinking, would it be difficult to implement this into the sign up form ?

Also I would like to keep the report private, i.e would not want my competitors to see the results.

I've begun working on a contribution that will put a dropdown box in the create account process that allow cutomers to tell you where they hear of you.

 

I hope to have an admin side that displays a report in a graph similar to the graphs in the banner section.

 

Someone please stop me if you are already working on this project.

Why not capture the referring URL so we would know where they saw our advert, then we wouldn't need to ask them - it would be automatic and more accurate.

Thats something that could be included also, would not tell you which newspaper they saw it on, friend, ezine etc.

Most of the time I have no idea how effective an add is
