xerxes
if oscommerce is free to use then i suppose it littered with oscommerce logos and copyright text line. if i wanted to download and use this product for a real live online shop dealing with real CC processes and transactions, i dont think i would want to have the oscommerce logos and copyright text lines on every page i would want mine to be there instead. i have looked around on this site but i see no sign as to the price to remove the logos and copyright text. is there susch a page or can i modify anything i want then upload it to my host configure and begin running the shop? basically whats the catch in using oscommerce ? a friend of mine told me about this place and most of the shops i see are all demos including his. so my final question, can oscommerce handle a real shop where real people will buy my products or is it an application just for programmers ? i hope some on can clear up my confusion thanks in advance XerXes

There really are no catches and the support from the community is fantastic.
nibl69
Everything can be customized. Simply replacing the osCommerce logo takes care of that. And you can remove the Copyright info, but your store cannot be featured on this site once you do that. However...not to be a smart***, but if you are looking for a "real" credit card process, then how about hiring "real" programmers to make you a custom shopping cart instead of looking to go all freebie? Have a look at my site...link is in my signature. It's still in development, but do you see any logos or copyrights?

xerxes
thanks for the replies and help and it really helped alot. im not really a comupter wizard so excuse my newbie attitude towards the net and the fruits that it has to offer. i have noticed many programs and scripts that i have downloaded normally states FREE but once you download it then you see the catch it usually goes like this 30 days trial, the logo must stay, dont change the code use on one machine, send us your email to get a code, it must be hosted on our systems. you know what im talking about. so when my friend and i were talking about my current selling products he suggested oscommerce and how great it is and thats why im here, then i noticed that it was free but i did not see any prices and i thought that there was a catch but it seems like i was wrong. nibl69 ------- its not cost effective for me to lash out on SSL, merchants banks, and all the other reccomended modules to make my shop work (although i wish i could do that). im really a small one man business i have a stall out in the market square and my currents customers knows were to find me should they need me. however recently things have been looking good (no, im not rich. far from it) and so i decided to operate a shop on the net just for my local area and see what will happen. to me this will be a cheap experiment along with 2checkout and paypal to handle CC transactions, if it does or not work i still will be happy. i just didnt want to download a software then use it in an illegal manner this is why i posted here just to make sure there was no risk for me in the future all because the software had some secret hidden clause which i did see. anyway im going to go and thanks again for all the answers XerXes

Are you referring to the Live Shops/Sponsors' Shops area? Most do not have the 'Powered by' tagline from what I see which made me ponder what section of this site you might be referring too. Just curious, Dmodegirl

And if you're still a small shop, you should be fine with 2checkout and PayPal, OsCommerce utilizes both so I say go for it. You won't know if you don't give it a try. :) Good luck, Dmodegirl
