Sales Tax

In the admin under Locations/Taxes you first need to define a tax zone. Click on Tax Zones and define a tax zone. Then open that folder and further define the zone.

Then click on Tax Rates and "insert" then add the rate and define Indiana as the zone.

I have done that, and each time it charges no sales tax , in any sate, including the one designated as a tax zo. I either have sales tax to all or to none

I know it is confusing because I had the same problem. Do this exactly...

1. Administration->Locations/Taxes->Tax Zones->Insert

2. Define the zone folder called 'Indiana'.

3. Go into that zone folder and add an actual zone to it in 'USA' for 'Indiana'

4. Now create another zone folder called 'USA-Except IN'

5. Go into that zone folder and add an actual zone to it in 'USA' for 'All Zones'

Hopefully that will do it. If not, make sure you're Tax Classes and Tax Rates are setup correctly in the Locations/Taxes module.

Did you also assign each product your class? If you setup a tax, you also have to edit your products to tell OSC to charge tax for them. There is a dropdown box for each product with the classes you create.

I'm having the same issue... its taxing all states, not just Massachusetts. I have a zone inserted called "Massachusetts", when i double-click to go into that folder i get this error:

Tax Zones

1064 - You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near '-20, 20' at line 1

select a.association_id, a.zone_country_id, c.countries_name, a.zone_id, a.geo_zone_id, a.last_modified, a.date_added, z.zone_name from zones_to_geo_zones a left join countries c on a.zone_country_id = c.countries_id left join zones z on a.zone_id = z.zone_id where a.geo_zone_id = 2 order by association_id limit -20, 20

[TEP STOP]

I'm a little confused as to what i need to do now.

I am a newbie but am also a bit confused. I installed osCommerce without any trouble at all..

Now as I begin to test...I see that tax is being charged for the ONE state I added but always ends up at $0.60 no matter how much the order is for...hummm... I tried following the above suggestions but it still refuses to charge the correct tax... This is a minimal system for test..only 5 products..so shoudl be easy to follow..hummm... osCommerce was suggested as a GREAT product and it appears to work well..

BUT... my goodness.. TAX Computation is essential... so I will hang in here until we get this resolved.

There is not much point in continuing with product updates...EasPopulate etc... if thsi tax thing cannot be resolved... Would appreciate more guidance and help... If I suddenly find a solution I will post immediately...
