Hi,

The site looks very nice. I think the fact that you have been in business for years says a lot.

I would recommend getting rid of the large red type that says ‘winter sale’ when you first enter. Skip to the next screen that you would reach when clicking on that link.

About apparel stores, I feel that its best to have a couple of navigation schemes.

1) what you already have: ‘categories’ ( women, men, babies) and ‘Shop by Brand’ (jenna, toppers etc.). These two menu’s are targeting people who know directly what they want to buy.

2) A navigation scheme that targets browses who do not know what they want. You don’t include this type of navigation. This could be as simple as just one or two links. An example would be including on your homepage, a picture of a woman dressed in a snazzy outfit and then below a link reading ‘hot new clothing styles of 2007’.

Some personality types are more drawn to suggestive links such as ‘hottest fashions’, ‘trendiest purses’ ‘what Hollywood stars are wearing’ etc. Other people want to just click on ‘shirts’ ‘pants’ ‘underwear’ and other links you already have. Including a suggestive navigating scheme also opens up possibilities for new landing pages that target new keywords.

I know what I am suggesting requires a lot of work. I am by no means an expert in the apparel industry so take my feedback under advisement. Good luck with your endeavors!

Best Regards,

I improved the front page and added some different navigation schemes off the front page. I haven't added them to the main navigation yet, I'd love to know if you guys think I should.

I am very hesitant to get rid of the front page ("doorway page") because it is at least a static html page for search engines to index. I know that google/yahoo/msn/etc don't have a problem with php sites, but what about less main stream search engines?

I think that your left column is making the site look bad. I like everything else about your layout, but I would work on that column.

Look at http://www.victoriassecret.com/ for a great use of the column and layout.
