How to Deal with Fraud

Hi, my store has been up and running for a while, and I use all the security methods - address checking, cvv, etc. Unfortunately, I have to pay a small fee each time the AVS system is contacted. I just had a customer make roughly 40 attempts - all with different card numbers - at making a large purchase. It's worth the $8.00 in fees I'll have to pay to have had all the cards declined, but going forward I'd like to:

- block this person from even using my system again (any idea where to get the IP address after they have logged off and shifted out of the Who's Online page?)

- report the person - I'm assuming the address they gave is at least somewhere they could have picked the package up from.

So, how do I block an IP from the site? And does anyone know how to report credit card fraud? I'm not even sure who or what agency I should contact.

Thanks,

Adrienne

Thanks for the great info on how to block the IP and deal with this person! However, I'm still not sure how to find out what the IP is after they drop off your Who's Online list. Can anyone help with that?

Thanks,

Adrienne

In the log file if your server has set it up - ask your host for that.

I presume you must be using a payment gateway or else you would have given up on this customer after the secon attempt. You should be able to find our from your control panel on their system. They may also have ways of blocking them from ip address, email address etc.

Yes, the payment gateway (Authorize.net) had the IP address. Thanks for the tip and all the great advice.
