Hi All,

New user here!

is anyone here using this software with the uk isp demon ?

I'm an ex-programmer (retired) was using C/C++/Java

Now setting up an online business so this software is all totally new to me & I want to make sure that the problems I (will) have are of my own devising, not a result of incompatability between the software & my isp

Many Thanks

Pete

...between the software & my isp...

If by the software you meant oscommerce, and by isp you meant the company who offers you internet service, then the answer is No, the two are generally not related. osc only relates to hosting services that you may use i for your online business and that got tb be offering mysql & php among other things. I know some isps may give free web space for hosting websites but this is in general not good or useless if I may say for oscommece.

Yes :'( :angry: :blink: :( >_<

I'm currently developing an OSC website which is being hosted on a Demon server (the client's choice, not mine).

It's been the most incredibly frustrating experience and I'm driven to the point of distraction.

Take one perfectly working website (running locally on my computer). Upload it to my own domain, again working fine.

Upload said site to Demon and headaches galore. It's been three weeks and I still haven't been able to go live on the site, I've encountered the most bizarro problems, and Demon's support have been... inadequate to say the least.

For example -

1. I'm using Newsdesk. On Demon, only the first image is uploaded. It ignores the second and third one.

2. I also used the AdminReviews contribution. It writes the review, the product info and the rating to the DB, but not the reviewer name!!!

That's just a couple. The contact page doesn't work either, plus a whole host of other annoyances. The thing that really bugs me is that if I could convince the client to kick Demon into touch, I could load the site straight up to another domain provider's server, the site would work and I could get on with my life.

My advice would be to use ANY other domain provider apart from Demon. All they've done for me is made me loathe making websites.

I always wanted to be a lumberjack, anyway...
