How do I prevent unwanted postings in my forum?

Hi,

A newbie here, so please be kind.

I'm just starting out, my site is up, but no products loaded yet. For the past two days I've had three different scum bags post "Buy illegal drugs here" on my forum. I don't want that kind of crap on my site and it seems as soon as I delete one, another one shows up.

I tried e-mailing them and telling them to cease and disist, but it comes back as undeliverable. Does anyone know how to keep this from happening? Please advise.

Brightest Blessings,

Azure Moon

most forum software (the free kind) offer add-ons / extentions / contributions to filter these type of things for you, or to make it harder for these bags to post this stuff.

if you're using phpbb, check out their website in the contribution section

Hi and thanks for your reply.

My site is OsCommerce and I don't know what phpbb is? Can you explain further or suggest a contribution here?

Oscommerce does not have a forum built in. The thing you are on now is a forum if you happen to mean the Contact Form and you are getting spammed try http://www.oscommerce.com/community/contri...earch,anti+spam or message me for one on one help

my interpretation of "forum" is what we are posting on now... this place. a section of a website to post stuff and have the public view immediately.

if the junk you're getting is going to your email inbox, see the previous poster's replies.

elsewise... if it's on a place like this... look to the VERY bottom of the page receiving replies and click on the click included next to the copyright year - that place will offer such contributions (for forums)

Post a link to your forum and lets see what software you are using

I personally use a different forum solution that is not well know but an excellent solution and still free!

I have recently set-up a forum and it has a good few measures in the admin to prevent such abuse

edit OK Have seen your forums via your profile link - What are you using for that forum?

Regards

Hi,

Okay...newbie here. My site was pre-built and came with a forum/message board. It's version 2.2 MS2.

My site is:

www.azuremoonjewelry.com

So much of this is waaaaaay over my head, so please provide simple, step by step instructions if possible.

Many Blessings,

Azure Moon

I have never seen that contribution before.

You could add a visual verification contribution. It will help stop automatic posts.

BTW, you really need to add a thumbnails contribution or something to speed up your page loads. It took far too long for the images to load.

I'm sorry, but i cannot offer Free support via PM etc, and osCommerce forums prohibit me from putting any reference to paid support in my signauture.

However viewing my profile may provide links to my website or something like that which you may find useful.

Hi Rob,

Thanks for your reply. I guess my quest continues to find a cure to nasties posting to my forum/message board.

I will install a thumbnail contribution ASAP...can anyone recommend the best one?

Dawn,

I am using SMF forum for my website. If you like you can see one in action on my website. If you like it I can give you there website. On this forum you have more control than phpBB forum.

Me too! Awsome eh??

Dawn SMF provides you with a multitude of options to stop such spam including what Rob has said about verification prior to posting - You can even set it so that guests have to put a verification code in when they search!

If you need any help then let me know
