weird shopping cart / login problem

The only way I can get the shopping cart to work "properly" is to set both the HTTP and HTTPS server in includes/configure.php to https://www.

 

If I go to the shopping cart I can surf, add to the shopping cart and et cetera. Everything is okay until I click on checkout and it asks me to login. Sometimes when I log in it wants to ask for the username/pass in https://, then http://, then https:// again. No matter what I do, the product is never in the shopping cart after I log in.

 

I have tried setting the cookie domain to both www.domain.com and .domain.com .

i have just placed 2 test orders on the site one after creating an account the other after logging off and back in, both orders went through fine!

everything seemed to work ok.

remove the www in both cookie domains ...
