adding alpha character to order_id

I understand that the order_id table is an auto-increment table. A customer places an order and oscommerce looks to see what the last order number was and then increases that number by 1.

 

My questions is that I would like to introduce alpha characters to my order numbers. Here is what I want to do:

instead of oscommerce producing order # 901 then 902 and then 903 and so on.... I would like to have it produce wb901 then wb902 and then wb903.

 

So, what will happen if I change my last order number from 903 to wo903 ?

 

can oscommerce accept alpha characters in the order_id table?
