bkkbint
Hi: I'm just getting my first site up and running and it's currently configured for PayPal. I HATE, HATE, HATE PayPal though so really want to get away from it ASAP. Does anyone have recommendations for a good payment option? The only one I've looked at so far is 2Checkout and they're WAAAYYYY too expensive (45 cents per order PLUS 5.5% - that's more than DOUBLE what I pay on PayPal). What I'm looking for is a) a relatively easy thing to set up B) a reliable service and c) not too expensive. Any suggestions?? Thanks Michelle http://www.bkkbint.com
Jack_mcs
I've seen this sentiment before but don't undersand it. Paypal is just an option that works well and that many people (customers) prefer. If you let your personal feelings cloud your judgement in such matters, you will suffer in the end. The fact of the matter is that paypal is the best choice for new shops. If you want to pay more for worse service, then 2CO is an option. But other than that, you have to start paying about $20/month (usually more) to use one of the other services. Jack Jack is right about this, basically i thought paypal was expensive in the beginning but after doing some research it isn't that bad. I only use paypal on the 3 online stores I made and there is no issue. Paypals good points are many with something like over 20 million users worldwide back in 2003 you can't go wrong using this service. so just give it a go. Allen It's not PayPal itself I have an issue with. I've been using them for 4 years and never had a problem with them. The issue I have is that they're owned by EBay - THE largest scammer out there, IMO. I've been selling on EBay for more than 4 years on two different IDs and have been ripped off so many times by them that I don't want any of my money going to them anymore if I can help it. I was sickened when PayPal was bought out by EBay as they've always been a great service. EBay on the other hand has the worst customer service of any company I've ever dealt with (other than Washington Mutual bank which I wouldn't touch with a ten foot pole :-) I've never thought PayPal is expensive though. They're cheaper than any other service I've checked into and much easier to set up (ie: no 7-10 day wait period while they decide if you're 'accepted' or not). The paypal checkout process is cumbersome especially to people that aren't geeks. If you are selling products that appeal to a wide audience you probably are going to need to get a merchant account (credit card processing account) and a gateway. Here is a useful article on gateways: http://www.informed-merchant.com/articles/...t-gateways.html and here is a useful article on merchant accounts and how much they cost: http://www.informed-merchant.com/articles/...ounts-work.html Paypal is certainly a lot simpler for the merchant, however, and dealing with these merchant account providers has a bit of a learning curve. It also will probably cost you more than paypal.
